There once was a Leprechaun named Shawn, He liked to wake up each morning at dawn. At the Country Victorian B & B he did stay, Because he loved their breakfast each day. He asked the innkeepers to decree, Each guest was to receive something free. They loved their guests so much they agree. So stay two nights and get the third night free. (All nights must be consecutive please. Offer not valid with other discounts, previous reservations, or gift certificates. Good through March 31, 2013

We are so excited because the Pumpkinvine Trail behind our house is finally being worked on and is hopefully going to be finished this year! We have heard the sounds of dead trees being cut down, and the big machinery has been in to excavate the trail before the paving is done this spring! We have waited so long for this portion of the trail to be completed and are so excited it will be accessible from our back yard!
Mark your calenders for the 14th Annual Pumpkinvine Bike Ride Saturday June 15, 2013! We are working on special pricing for those of you coming from out of town for the ride so keep watching this space for further info!

Today as I was cleaning out the mess I call my office I ran across some notes, cards, and letters from guests in our past. Among them I found a poem written by a guest while she was relaxing o the front porch before breakfast with a cup of coffee. It reminded me of why I chose to live here and become an innkeeper with my husband the Colonel! Thank you Tina for the reminder of why I love living here and why I love my job!
The Country Victorian Middlebury, Indiana
At dawn- In the middle of a place where sounds of engines mix With the clip-clop of horses hooves, Crickets still chirp in welcome of the sun rising in the East.
A dragon tree and red geraniums guard the stoop of Living history, Preserved by the Colonel and his wife for all to see, American pride.
Tawny-hued wood, polished lovingly to a glow, Rows of flowery china encased side by side with hand carved knick-knacks, Brick-a-brack and old-tyme photos, Books that speak volumes when you turn their pages.
Beds invite blissful slumber until a lavender an chamomile bath beckon, The water warming bones and soul. Coffee at the ready, no longer weary, Breakfast is served to prepare us for the next of our journey As geese fly in a "V" against a misty sunrise, and in the distance, Church bells toll. -Tina Hoffman

Arnie celebrated his birthday on Friday the 13th this year! It doesn't happen that often and he never thinks of it as being a bad luck day. In fact he always says it's his lucky day when it is on a Friday! That being the case I took him to a restaurant called 523 Tap & Grill on Main St. in Elkhart. I had been there for lunch with a girlfriend and thought he would enjoy it! He always says I never take him anywhere so...
We got "lucky" and were able to sit outside on the patio as the evening had cooled off quite nicely. He decided to try a new beer that is made in Munster, Indiana called "Robert the Bruce". I'm not much of a beer lover but wow this was pretty good! It is smooth but strong without a beer after taste. He said it packed a punch after only one! As we sat outside listening to the sounds of downtown, the trains rolling by to some unknown destination, and enjoying our cool evening on the patio we ate a lovely hummus appetizer with carrot and cucumber slices and pita triangles. Just the right amount of lemon and garlic flavor!
Arnie had the New England Clam Chowder which is pretty much his favorite soup and the steak special with roasted parsnips! Delicious! I had a Caesar salad, (hold the anchovies) and the Lobster tail with roasted Yukon gold potato wedges. Scrumptious! As it was Arnie's birthday dessert was called for! I knew once our waitress said NY cheesecake with raspberry sauce it would be the choice as it is his favorite dessert! I've never seen such a huge piece of cheesecake except for when the whole cheesecake comes out of my oven! It was cool, creamy and delicious!
Check out their menu at: http://www.523tapandgrill.com/menu.html It is a lovely little upscale bistro with an enticing eclectic menu! The chef makes the best potato soup I have ever eaten!
