The Innkeepers: Lori and Arnie Schumacher

Arnie and I, innkeepers of the Country Victorian, have owned and operated the bed and breakfast since November 2004. Prior to purchasing our beautiful Queen Anne Victorian home, built in 1894, Arnie and I spent 23 years raising our family wherever the Air Force decided to take us, from the snow drifts of North Dakota to the charming countryside of England. Our many travels around the U.S.A. and Europe made us realize the importance of feeling at home when away from home, and we discovered the huge difference high-quality hospitality can make. It wasn’t long after staying at our first B&B in Southern Wales that I finally knew what I wanted to be when I grew up!

So when Arnie was finishing up his 25 years of service and preparing for retirement, we gave up our “Home is where the Air Force sends you!” lifestyle, and made arrangements to purchase the Country Victorian and settle permanently in Middlebury, Indiana – a mere thirty-five minutes from my birthplace in South Bend. Now we can enjoy the comforts of being in our own home, while providing our guests with the same home-like comforts that we know are so essential for resting, relaxing and refreshing successfully, whether you are traveling for business or pleasure. Please let us know if there is anything you need that we might not have thought about or if we can assist you in any way.

Arnie and I have three children, Adam, Lorin, and Amanda, who can be found helping out at the B&B around the holidays when they return home from their various locations around the world. We would love the opportunity to meet you and share stories about our travels and about life!
